Minister João Baptista Borges said in Ondjiva that the construction of water storage and retention infrastructure is the solution to fight the negative effects of drought in Cunene, Huila and Namibe provinces in the next six years.
João Baptista Borges points to solutions to drought in southern region Speaking to Angop on Monday, the minister stressed that under the government’s program, several structural projects in 74 Months to implement strategy to combat drought in the southern region of the country.
He spoke at the inauguration of the Cunene River Water Transfer System in Cafu, which will benefit 235,000 families, 250,000 animals and irrigate 5,000 Hectares of agricultural fields.
João Baptista Borges said that the Cafú Canal is a great gift for the people of Cunene and will solve the problem of water shortage for the majority of the region’s population.
It will be a value or added for families doing subsistence and irrigated farming as this is the annual production of food to sustain the local market and Expo rt to neighboring countries.
